Shine Forms tablet app overview

The Shine Forms tablet app is the on-site companion to Shine Forms Desktop. It runs on Android tablets and Apple iPads, works without an internet connection, and uploads finished certificates to your Shine Forms account where the PDFs are produced and Shine Forms Desktop can pick them up.

This section documents the new tablet app, which replaces the previous generation of Shine Tablet apps. It looks and works very differently from the app it replaces.

Same app on desktop soon

The new tablet app shares its screens with the next Shine Forms desktop app for Windows and macOS. Once you know your way around the tablet, the desktop version will feel immediately familiar.

What you can do on the tablet

  • Create EICR certificates to BS 7671
    +A4
and complete every section of the report on site: installation details, supply and earthing, boards and circuits, test results, the inspection schedule, observations, appendices and the declaration.
  • Fill in the circuit schedule with tap-friendly value pads instead of typing, in either a card view or a full grid.
  • Code the inspection schedule and have observations raised for you automatically.
  • Let Intelligence check your test data against the regulations and raise statements for you to confirm.
  • Attach photos to observations and appendices from the tablet’s camera or gallery.
  • Upload the certificate to your Shine Forms account and view or download the finished PDF online.

Everything you enter is saved automatically as you go. There is no Save button to remember, and closing the app or losing power does not lose your work.

Coming soon

The app launches with the electrical certificates. The other disciplines you will see in the app — fire alarm, emergency lighting, solar PV and EV charging — are coming soon.

Supported devices

  • Android tablets — install from Google Play.
  • Apple iPad — install from the App Store.

Both versions are the same app with the same features. The app is designed for tablets in landscape orientation. It also runs on phones in a simplified layout, but a 10” tablet gives the circuit grid the room it needs.

Working offline

The app runs entirely on the tablet. You can create and edit certificates with no connection at all.

You need an internet connection for:

  • Signing in for the first time on a device.
  • Uploading a finished certificate to your Shine Forms account.
  • Viewing the PDF of an uploaded certificate.

If you tap Upload Now while offline, the upload is queued and sent automatically the next time the tablet is connected.

How it fits with Shine Forms Desktop and your account

  • You create and edit a certificate on the tablet, on site.
  • You upload it to your Shine Forms account. The account produces the PDFs.
  • In the office, Shine Forms Desktop downloads the certificate from your account so that it can be reviewed, merged with other engineers’ work or issued to the customer.

Work flows from the tablet up to your account. You cannot yet send a certificate from Shine Forms Desktop down to a tablet.

Where certificates are stored

Certificates live on the tablet until you delete them. Deleted certificates go to the app’s Recycle bin, from where they can be restored.

Uploaded certificates are also kept in your Shine Forms account, where you can view the PDFs at any time.

Before you start

  1. Create a Shine Forms account if you don’t already have one. Registration is free.
  2. Install the app from Google Play or the App Store.
  3. Sign in on the tablet with your Shine Forms account.

Then read the Home screen to create your first certificate, and navigating a certificate to find your way around it. When the certificate is finished, upload it to get the PDF.

Licensing

The licensing and pricing plans for the new tablet app will be announced soon. See licensing on the tablet.
