What BS 5839 certificates cover

BS 5839-1 covers fire detection and fire alarm systems in buildings other than dwellings — offices, warehouses, retail units and similar commercial premises. BS 5839-6 covers dwellings, including flats and houses in multiple occupation.

Installing and maintaining a fire alarm system is rarely the work of one contractor, so the standard splits it into stages.
