Emergency Lighting Certificate Software for BS 5266
Shine Forms is emergency lighting certificate software for engineers working to BS 5266, the British Standard for the design, installation, commissioning and periodic inspection and testing of emergency lighting systems. Produce regulation-checked certificates for installations of any size, using the same software, PDFs and support as your electrical certificates.
What BS 5266 certificates cover
BS 5266 covers emergency lighting — the escape and standby lighting that keeps occupants safe if the mains supply fails. The model certificates let you record whether an installation is large or small, a small installation being denoted as fewer than 25 emergency lighting luminaires, and to produce a periodic inspection certificate once the system is in service.
Deviations from the standard and remedial fault actions are recorded and numbered directly on the certificate, with your own choice of numbering scheme, so they carry through cleanly to the finished PDF.
We keep the certificates current as the standard changes — emergency lighting certificates were most recently updated to BS 5266-1:2025, and you can create a new 2025 form directly from an older emergency lighting certificate rather than starting again from scratch.
Built-in BS 5266 knowledge
The regulation intelligence behind these certificates isn't generic. Gary Gundry, who checks Shine Forms' electrical intelligence against BS 7671, also serves on the national committee for BS 5266 — the emergency lighting standard. The same standard applies to the intelligence in your emergency lighting certificates: it comes from someone who helps write the standard, not from a general knowledge model trained on whatever is on the internet.
The same certificate workflow as your electrical certificates
Emergency lighting certificates live on the same Home Screen as your EICRs, EICs and Minor Works, created and managed the same way. There's no separate application to learn and no switching between systems depending on which part of the job you're certifying.
Every certificate you produce with Shine Forms — electrical, fire alarm or emergency lighting — goes through the same PDF workflow: generate PDFs for printing and issue, secured with tamper protection, carrying your company and association or scheme provider logos, with your engineer's details and signature already in place. You can also attach photos and documents to emergency lighting certificates as appendices, useful evidence of luminaire positions or test results.
One system instead of several
Many contractors doing BS 5266 work also produce BS 7671 electrical certificates and BS 5839 fire alarm certificates. Prolec Electrical Services, a Shine Forms customer working across all three, use one system rather than switching between platforms for different types of work: "having one piece of software that covers what we need means engineers aren't jumping between different systems," says their project manager. Before you buy emergency lighting certificate software, check it also covers whatever other certification your team produces — Shine Forms handles electrical, fire alarm and emergency lighting certificates in one place.
